| All the Goods are Stolen, a 16-minute work for alto and tenor saxophone and piano, was written for Adam McCord and the Upland Chamber Ensemble. Despite my paucity of rock/jazz background, it still manages to come through in this work, particularly, for example, in the A – B – B-flat minor triads in root position above a driving ostinato. The title is taken from Gertrude Stein's Tender Buttons, a work whose hipness and angular imagery inspired this one of mine. |
